ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:

The Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD) is complied of 5-units and aims to deliver professional, integrated, and client centres services that focus on development and support to the Stellenbosch University community. Their vision is to create a centre that is inclusive, approachable as well as client-centred with strong values rooted in humanity. The CSCD has a number of staff members, such as psychologists, psychology interns, social workers, portfolio/project coordinators, student assistants, administrative staff, and support officers.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Stellenbosch University, Stellenbosch, Western Cape
Duration: 12 months
Number of positions available: 3

The Centre for Student Counselling and Development is offering an internship programme to candidates for the role of Intern Psychologists. The programme will commence on 1 January 2022. This position is based at the Unit for Academic Counselling and Development.
 

Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Ensuring that psychological services are delivered to students and scholars- this includes academic counselling, psychometric assessment, psychotherapy, and career development counselling
  • Participating in presenting workshops
  • Drafting psychological reports
  • Directing intake interviews
  • Ensuring administrative tasks are completed
  • Partaking in the group and individual supervision
  • Ensuring relative research to support casework is conducted/ case presentations

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have a completed module in Career Counselling (Masters level)
  • Must have an exceptional command of the English language (written and oral)
  • Must be fluent in an additional second South African official language
  • Must have experience and knowledge in career counselling (narrative approach)
  • Must have a practical/scientific approach to the development of key skills to establish student's success
  • Must be knowledgeable about the Children's Act No. 38 of 2005 (as well as the application of it)
  • Must have experience and knowledge in therapeutic interventions of younger children and their parents
  • Must have experience in leading and compiling group work sessions
  • Must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as Intern Psychologist in Educational Psychology
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to work in a high pressured environment
  • Must be able to work well in a team
  • Must be able to follow a working schedule and operate in a structured environment, delivering high-quality service
  • Must have experience in a multidisciplinary professional team
