DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMMES:

Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Contract type: Permanent

WSP Africa is offering 2 Engineering internships in the Consulting and Services Engineering sector:
1) The Mechanical Engineering internship. This programme is open to a candidate who is passionate about engineering, hard-working, competent, reliable and a fast learner with good background knowledge in mechanical building services (the HVAC field.) The desired candidate will use this knowledge and skills to build a solid foundation and add to the success and productivity of the Property Coastal Mechanical team.

Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Providing assistance with HVAC Mechanical Designs, depending on the requirements and specifications of clients
  • Providing assistance with calculation software and analysis pertaining to Air/head/fluid Flow
  • Providing assistance with calculations pertaining to Heat Load
  • Providing assistance in preparing tender documents/processes
  • Visiting sites when required to do so
  • Providing assistance with site monitoring
  • Using Building Information Management (BIM) for the purpose of driving technological innovation and research
  • Ensuring you are a role model for the standards for SHEQ performance
  • Ensuring your behaviours are consistent with the company's health, safety, quality division, and environmental policies whilst also encouraging others to do so
  • Contributing to the recognition of SHEQ risks and leading processes with the aim to achieve Zero Harm
  • Displaying, promoting and embracing the company's values
  • Ensuring that a work environment that is safe is consistently maintained (applicable on office, construction or general environments)

 
2) The Electrical Engineering internship . This programme is open to a candidate with strong technical knowledge, which can be put to the use of building a strong foundation, which will contribute to the property Coastal Electrical team. Graduates who apply for this position must be hardworking, with a passion for engineering, be able to take initiative, a faster learner and be competent.

Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Providing assistance with compiling engineering calculations, tenders, project proposals, detailed design and drawings.
  • Providing assistance with compiling detailed designs, drawings, and construction monitoring
  • Visiting sites when required to do so
  • Providing assistance with Lighting Systems designs
  • Providing assistance with LV electrical building services designs
  • Providing assistance with MV electrical bulk site service designs
  • Providing assistance with designs of Single Lines, Reticulation, Generators, CCTV, Building Management, Access control, Audio Visual
  • Communication with other engineering departments to ensure coordinated solutions
  • Ensuring company ISO9001 requirements are complied with
  • Providing technical support for other functions when required
  • Keeping quality standards in the drawing office when required
  • Ensuring you are a role model for the standards for SHEQ performance
  • Ensuring your behaviours are consistent with the company's health, safety, quality division, and environmental policies whilst also encouraging others to do so

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

1) The Mechanical Engineering internship

  • Must have completed a Diploma / Bachelor of Technology qualification in Mechanics or Mechatronics
  • Must have 0-1 years working experience in HVAC mechanical design on industrial/ commerical projects
  • Must be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be proficient at working with AutoCAD
  • Must be registered with ECAS as a candidate engineer (advantageous)
  • Must have post-graduate experience in the consulting environment (advantageous)
  • Must have experience in HAP/IES/Revit/ Naviswork/BIM360 software packages (advantageous)
  • Must have a drivers licence and your own form of transportation
  • Must be able to work well with clients and contractors
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be able to work effectively on your own
  • Must have high attention to detail
  • Must be able to work well in a team
  • Must have an interest in IT/computing/gaming (advantageous)

2) The Electrical Engineering internship

  • Must have completed a Bsc degree / Bachelor of Technology qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Must have 0-1 years working experience in a consulting environment, after completing your studies (advantageous)
  • Must be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must be registered with ECAS as a candidate engineer (advantageous)
  • Must be able to work with contractors and clients
  • Must have a drivers licence and your own form of transportation
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be able to work effectively on your own
  • Must have high attention to detail
  • Must be able to work well in a team
