DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Cape Town, Western Cape – at the Amazon Dev Centre South Africa
Duration: 6 months (starting in July and ending in December each year)

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is offering an internship to a candidate to join their team as a cloud support engineer. The candidate will assist a global list of companies and developers in this transformational technology forefront. The candidate will perform as a 'cloud ambassador' assisting customers with tools and tactics they would require to achieve the most out of their support investment and products across the cloud products. As part of the AWS team, the candidates will be required to communicate with their peers and teams on Amazon Web Services, allowing them to gain experience on the services as well as receive learning and training.

Key Purpose of the Programme:

  • Using the newest cloud computing technologies
  • Aiding customers in understanding integration approaches and architectures
  • Providing customer support in the cloud
  • Solving customer's cases through the contact channels (telephone, web/live chat, and e-mail) and troubleshooting techniques
  • Meeting your career goals through the help of AWS opportunities and training programmes
  • Participating in training or focused summits on AWS sites or events (if interested in travel)
  • Participating in new hiring, writing script/tools to support the team, working with leadership on improvements and strategic initiatives, developing/training/partnering with development teams on complex issues

Key Performance Areas of the Programme:

  • Learning and using new technologies
  • Applying up-to-date troubleshooting techniques (on your own and with the team) to aid customers in problem-solving
  • Communicating with engineers and customers from across the globe
  • Providing feedback to AWS team on how to improve customer care
  • Aid in projects that improve both AWS customer's technical support experience and support-related processes
  • Writing 'how-to' and other educational videos to aid the developer community
  • Working on advanced customer problems that could include many AWS services

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Education requirement: must be a final-year student in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / IT (Information Technology) or a related field
  • Must have experience in any of the following functional scripting language- Python, Perl, Ruby, Shell Scripting
  • Must have knowledge of network, OS, system, internet fundamentals, and cloud computing systems
  • Must be familiar with Storage, Big Data concepts, and Database
  • Must have experience with the following troubleshooting Networks: TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, firewalls, LAN/WAN, iperf, traceroute, cURL, dig, or any related
  • Must be available for the entire duration of the internship programme
  • Must be interested in building a career with AWS
  • Must be familiar with the top practices for servers, networks, and applications
  • Must have the drive to be affiliated with customer-facing technology
  • Must enjoy working in a Unix/Linux environment
