DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

Location: Western Cape
Duration: 24 months
Start date: 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible
Salary/ Stipend: R100 000 per annum - as set out in the National Treasury Guidelines for the Implementation of (MFMIP)

National Treasury has set up a financial internship programme to manage capacity building in municipalities. The Bergrivier Municipality is thereby is offering 2 Internship opportunities: 1 for Financial Services and 1 for Internal Audit & Risk Management. Interns will undergo practical experience and further training in strategic reforms in municipal finance. The programme will run for 24 months, with a possible extension of a further year.

Bergrivier Municipality ensures the wellbeing of all communities within the Bergrivier region through economic growth, social wellbeing, community involvement and effective management within a safe and healthy environment.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Assisting in the implementation of accepted municipal accounting practice and budgetary reforms
  • Training in the key performance areas of financial & supply chain management
  • Reconciliations and financial analysis
  • Electronic collection of financial data

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must have completed a 3 year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Internal Auditing and/or Risk Management
  • Must have a valid Code B driver’s license
  • Must be computer literate (MS Office Applications)
  • Must be literate in at least 2 of the official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans/ English/ Xhosa), being able to speak, read and write
  • Must have good human relations skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • Must be able to pay close attention to detail
  • Must be highly responsible
  • Must have strong accountancy and numeracy skills
  • Must have good report writing skills
  • Must have basic knowledge of monthly reconciliations
  • Must have knowledge of financial & supply chain management processes
  • Must reside within the Bergrivier Municipal area (WC013)

ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:

Bergrivier Local Municipality is a local municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It governs the towns of Piketberg, Velddrif and Porterville, as well as the surrounding villages and rural areas. As of 2011 it had a population of 61,897.
