ABOUT THE COMPANY PROVIDING THE INTERNSHIP:

Established in 2000, the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IRJ) was founded during the awakening of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The goal the IRJ is to build societies that are democratic, fair and inclusive in South Africa.

The IRJ is an independent organisation bridging the gap between civil society and academia. They aim to do this by starting internally, hiring a diversity of professional employees at their Cape Town offices.
 

DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

The IRJ's Communications and Advocacy unit is offering a dynamic South African citizen an internship opportunity. The goal of the internship is to advocate, inform and set an agenda for justice and reconciliation by building a relationship and engaging with stakeholders.

Location: Gardens, Cape Town, Western Cape
Duration: 11 Months (starting in February 2021 and ending in December 2021)
Stipend: R5 500 per month
 

Key performance areas of the programme:

  • Gathering and compiling content for the organisational newsletter
  • Reporting and Updating on the 'news and events' of IRJ
  • Branding and Marketing assistance
  • Aiding in the expansion and creation of online messages and campaigns
  • Production of media clips
  • Monitoring and tracking media
  • Marketing of social media
  • Conducting Google analytics and media research
  • Online profiling, monitoring and evaluation in accordance with the Institute
  • Assisting in updating and managing the website and social media
  • Administration
  • Assisting with scanning and filing of adhoc programmes
  • Assisting in logistics and planning of events
  • Photography
  • Assisting the Communications and Advocacy team

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO APPLY:

Before applying, please ensure that you meet ALL of the following minimum entry criteria – failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:

  • Must be a South African citizen or have permanent residence in RSA
  • Education requirement: must have completed a Bachelors Degree in Communications Science/ Marketing or Journalism
  • Must be computer literate in all MS offices
  • Must have excellent writing skills in English with an additional RSA official language (advantageous)
  • If needed, must be willing to relocate at own expense
  • Must be able to utilize social media for organisational purposes
  • Must have excellent problem-solving/decision-making abilities
  • Must be confident
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be willing to work with others
  • Must have responsibility, accountability, pro-activeness and creativity
  • Must have superb time-management and organisational abilities
  • Must be able to work in a pressuring environment
  • Must have a key understanding and coherence to communications processes
